Model Works began life in the 1980s when its founder David Murphy, an architect, inspired by the value of scale models in the design and communication of his own work, started to work with other architects in similar fashion. A stint with Roche Dinkeloo architects in the US who were famous for their use of models and the photography of models in design and presentation solidified this resolve. And so began a thriving business in the world of miniature.

It was not long before computer technology arrived to change model construction methods but the advent of digital visualisation and virtual reality heralded the exciting development of Model Works into a multidisciplinary architectural presentation studio featuring not just models but CGI, Photomontages, Animation, VR and AR. In addition models became interactive and had a whole new lease of life.

Model Works’ verified methodology in the production of photomontages and the presentation of evidence at planning hearings in many ways informed the industry in the early years and the work was relied on in many a successful planning permission. In the past decade we have expanded this service to include LVIA assessment and reporting together with Daylight /Sunlight Analysis. In the words of a valued client “So you are now doing the brainy stuff as well”! We like to think that there was always an intellectual dimension to our presentation artistry but we get what he meant!
